Artist's Commentary

“This is a portrait of one of my paternal great-grandmothers, Helen Beatrice Milne, who was born in 1866 and died in 1925. She had ten children, one of whom was my grandmother Jessie. I never met Jessie, as unfortunately she died in 1959, before I was born. The parchment Helen is holding traces part of my paternal family genealogy, connecting her descendants through the generations to the present day.”
