“Painted in the Glenisla valley of Angus — a glen I have walked and returned to for many years — this work attempts to capture the particular quality of light that arrives in October, when the hills hold the last warmth of the year before surrendering it to winter. There is a melancholy in Scottish autumn that is also strangely comforting, a beautiful resignation. I wanted the painting to sit inside that feeling: golden, finite, and wholly alive.”
